Duke is 4 Months Old!

Duke turned 4 months old Saturday! He's getting so big and wild and crazy. He also had his first cold last week, which was hard to hear his little coughs but I think we are through the worst of it. The cough is still lingering, which we both have but he's in a decent mood.

Saturday night was also our first night away from the baby (mine anyway). We traveled to D.C. for Kristin and John's amazing wedding. I had so much fun catching up with all the girls from IUP. It's been way too long since we all got together.

Back to the grind of interviews and a crazy work schedule. I'll be glad when my week has some consistency to it.

Job Interviews

Ugh, why do those words make my stomach turn upside down and every which way? It's because I don't like trying to convince someone that I'll work hard and be there on time and all I ask for in return is decent pay and a friendly place to work. What I've noticed about my new career as a Dental Hygienist is that every workplace is going to be very different but I'll be doing the same thing.

I have been on 3 sit down interviews, 1 working interview done and 2 working interviews to come. I started working at the office that I did the working interview for already one day a week. I had an interview today for a two day a week job that is 5 minutes from my house! I am hoping the local job works out because it was so convenient and everyone was really friendly. And I need to mention that it is right next to a Dunkin' Donuts AND 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Momma has bills to pay.

My plan is to be done with all these interviews and have a weekly schedule and a fantastic babysitter hired by June 1st. I have a fantastic sitter for Wednesday's (thanks B) already.

To be continued . . .

A Mouse in the House!!!

** If hearing of mouse poop completely grosses you out - start reading halfway down **

Normally I think small furry critters are cute. All creatures great and small, right? Well, not when it poops on my counter and eats my brownies. Yesterday (Friday), I woke up and went down to make my morning coffee while Duke was playing in his crib. By playing I mean yelling at his mobiles. I made my coffee and cleaned up the kitchen a bit and my sister, B, comes over to visit. She comes in the kitchen and we chit chat and what goes best with coffee, brownies of course. I had them in a dish and covered with a paper towel over night. I eat a brownie and begin pouring a cup of coffee when I notice tiny little brownish black specks (oblong shaped) on my counter. I investigate them and realize they kind of look like what my hamster's poop looked like many many moons ago when I had a hamster. That's when I realize, I don't think we're alone here. Then I realize - Oh My Gosh - would a mouse eat brownies?? But I had them covered by a paper towel, certainly a mouse would not be smart enough. Sure enough, I take a closer look at the brownies and there is a whole section nibbled out and two turds in the dish. At this point, I think I might be sick. I ate a brownie! I call Jack at work and tell him to pick up some traps on his way home.

The trap went out last night. We came down this morning and the trap had been triggered!!! There were small poops again near the trap too. I pick up the trap and shake it a little but nothing. It wasn't heavy and I thought it was a false alarm and put the trap back down. Jack takes it to the garage and comes back in and says that he thinks there's a mouse in there so he attempts to put it in a bucket so we can take it down to the woods. Sure enough here comes a whiskery pointy nose coming from the trap. He was released down by the woods and hopefully he won't be back. I hope that was the only one. It gives me the shivers just thinking about it creeping around my kitchen.

Other than the mouse, life here has been pretty uneventful. Duke is loving taking his tubbies and he is getting so big. I think he enjoyed the warm weather we had this week because we got to get outside and play instead of always being in the house. He loves watching the dogs play and has been keeping a close eye on them lately.

Today is Easter and what a great day it was for anything outside! Duke and I took a walk and Jack hit some golf balls, then we had an Easter egg hunt at the Rhoads' house and great big Easter dinner. Duke got to meet his me-mom and be-bop for the very first time! They are home from Florida for the summer!

Sammy and Duke - BFF's

The weekend was beautiful every day so we tried to get outside as much as possible. We had a play date with all our Rhoads friends and went for a nice walk. Then we dyed Easter eggs at mom-mom and pop-pop Horgan's and had dinner for Uncle Matt's birthday. Saturday I worked for the first time in a LONG time at a new office. Starting a new job is never fun but we made it through the day and couldn't wait to get back home to Duke.

Pappy Wood had his hip surgery on Thursday and is starting to feel much better and hopefully he'll be moving around much better with his new hip!! It's finally over an now it's time to start living the good life in retirement and without a painful walk.
